West Bengal Arthroplasty Society was founded in 2005 by a group of orthopaedic surgeons dedicated in the field of arthroplasty. Our association’s founder president late Dr. P. K. Banerjee was an international faculty in joint replacements. He was a great visionary and dedicated his life in research and advancement of arthroplasty surgery in West Bengal. Our body continues to function with even greater enthusiasm and every year we strive to achieve new milestones.

The mission of WBAS is to improve the health of the community and the world by setting the standard of excellence in medical education, research and clinical care, in the field of Arthroplasty.

WBAS is an independent body working in close association with West Bengal Orthopaedic Association (WBOA). It is in face the first independent state level body to promote arthroplasty. It also functions a super-speciality unit of WBOA. Members of WBAS have been consistently representing in various national and international forums.

At the time of inception of WBAS only about 500 joint replacements were done West Bengal. This number has now increased over 20 times in 2017-18*. This number is ever growing with the combined efforts of our team. Our teal works tirelessly in increasing awareness in general mass and patients by arranging programmes and camps. The “Joint Walk “ program has been very successful in alleviating the fear of operation in patients. WBAS is committed to maintaining the highest standards of orthopaedic care for the patients, by providing our surgeon members with continuing medical education, subspecialty support, knowledge sharing, advocacy platforms, fellowship programs, leadership opportunities and collaboration with other health-care associations.
